Social Services

Mandate: Improve the standard of living of the community by providing quality and adequate housing, education, health, social amenities and community services. Scope: To create a thriving, sustainable community where all residents have access to quality housing, education, healthcare, and social amenities, resulting in improved quality of life and empowered citizens. The Social Services Department of Umzingwane Rural District Council is responsible for promoting community welfare and improving the quality of life for residents within the district. The department coordinates social development programmes that support vulnerable groups, including women, children, youth, the elderly, and people living with disabilities. It also works closely with communities and development partners to address social challenges and promote inclusive community development initiatives.

The department also oversees the development and maintenance of social and recreational facilities that enhance community well-being. These include community halls, sports and recreation programmes, and other public amenities that encourage social interaction and youth development. Through awareness campaigns, community engagement activities, and partnerships with stakeholders, the department promotes social inclusion, empowerment, and sustainable community growth across the district.
